Dr. S. Poopathi, Scientist-G (Director Grade) has 27 years of experience in Biomedical Research and has special expertise in Medical Entomology, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. He has completed several DST, DBT, ICMR and DSTE projects sanctioned to his credit as Principle Investigator and the main themes of his research include molecular biological studies on the purification and characterization of mosquitocidal toxins, B. sphaericus resistant gene identification, identification of novel bacteria from marine resources (sea-shore) for mosquito vector control and in addition recycling the biological wastes from environment and vector surveillance. He has several years of experience in molecular techniques including DNA-finger printing.
He has three Indian patents and filed another two in the recent past. He has received “ICMR-Award-2014” for outstanding contribution in Biomedical Research. The other prestigious awards received by him are: APJ. Abdul Kalam Award, Sushruta Best Scientist Award, Recognition Award, Best Researcher Award, Technology Achievement Award, Life Time achievement Award. He has published more than 100 papers in National and International Journals almost as first author. He has recently undergone ICMR-DHR International fellowship in the School of Biology, Institute of Science, Suranaree University of Technology, Thailand.
