ICMR National Institute for Vector Control Research (ICMR-NIVCR), established in 1975, is a permanent institute of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), functioning under the Department of Health Research, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. For five decades, it has remained at the forefront of advancing research and innovation for the prevention and control of vector-borne diseases. With a multidisciplinary team of about 30 scientists, supported by technical, field, and laboratory personnel, and dedicated research facilities, the institute conducts basic, translational, and applied research spanning vector biology, epidemiology, molecular diagnostics, integrated vector management, insecticide resistance, climate change and vector ecology, and community-based interventions. Over the years, ICMR-NIVCR has built strong scientific evidence through high-impact publications in national and international peer-reviewed journals that have been translated into technical reports and policy inputs, strengthening India's vector-borne disease control programmes. The institute has played an important role in the country’s progress towards eliminating lymphatic filariasis, malaria and other vector- borne diseases. In recognition of its scientific excellence, the World Health Organization (WHO) has designated ICMR-NIVCR as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Lymphatic Filariasis and Integrated Vector Management.

  • Develop strategies for the prevention and control/elimination of vector-borne diseases.
  • Develop epidemiological surveillance tools for vector-borne diseases.
  • -Undertake human resource development activities to meet local/state/national/regional challenges.
