Facility In Charge: Dr Vijesh Sreedhar K, Scientist-E
The facility for serological as well as molecular diagnosis of vector borne diseases - namely dengue, chikungunya, Japanese encephalitis, Zika virus and filarial parasite is available. Molecular characterization of dengue/chikungunya viral strains are carried out. The facility supports the health department of Puducherry with molecular studies during disease outbreaks. In 2017, this laboratory detected dengue serotype 4 for the first time in Puducherry. We also carry out studies on detection of virus/parasite in insect vectors.
This facility has equipments like PCR, real time PCR, electrophoresis & gel documentation apparatus, ELISA reader, refrigerated centrifuges, sonicator, tissue lyser, spectrophotometer, laminar flow hood, and deep freezers.
