Dr. Rohit Sharma is a researcher with over 15 years of experience in molecular biology of vector-borne diseases (VBDs). He previously worked on the genetic polymorphism of filarial parasites Wuchereria bancrofti at the ICMR-Vector Control Research Center, Puducherry, and received Ph.D. from Pondicherry Central University. As a postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Sharma worked on the molecular genetics of the Leishmania major at the Ribeirão Preto Medical School, University of Sao Paulo (USP-FMRP), Brazil. He later joined the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation-“Fiocruz-Igm”-(leading public health research institute under the Ministry of Health, Brazil) and worked on developing vaccination and diagnostic tools for American Tegumentary Leishmaniasis (ATL). He also participated in various clinical cohort studies on cutaneous leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania braziliensis and investigated the risk of ZIKA transmission via blood transfusion in the 2016 outbreak in Brazil. Recently, Dr. Sharma was a Postdoctoral Research Scientist under a CDC grant from the Northeast Regional Center for Excellence in Vector-Borne Diseases (NEVBD), USA. He worked at the Center for Vector Biology and Zoonotic Diseases, CAES, New Haven, and investigated vector competence for the Powassan virus (Flavivirus) in different tick species found in the Northeastern United States
