Dr. M. Muniyaraj is a Gold Medalist for securing University First Rank from Madurai Kamaraj University in 1994 in the subject Microbiology. He was working as Assistant professor and Head in-charge of Microbiology before joining ICMR as Scientist B. He did his Ph.D., works in elucidating the Role of Bdelloid Rotifer, Philodina roseola in the breeding containers of Aedes aegypti. Most of the research works concentrate on Leishmaniasis and their cultural behaviors. He has developed several novel techniques and methods to understand the Leishmania parasite and mosquito microbes associations. He has statistically predicted the 15 years wave of kala-azar (visceral leishmaniasis), fading chikungunya fever, etc., He has also proved the efficacy of the SA-14-14-2 vaccine in the prevention of Japanese encephalitis and extremely long survival of Aedes aegypti eggs. He has received the “International Einstein Award” from the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England. He is reviewing the research articles for a couple of journals and acting as a technical editor for a few. As a resource person, He has delivered talk on various research aspects in national and international conferences, attended several national/ international conferences, seminars, and presented research papers. He was also acting as a member of the Board of Studies for Microbiology, Periyar University, Salem; Jamal Mohammad College, Tiruchirapalli and Fatima College, Madurai. He has also invented a device to grow Germ-free and Gnotobiotic mosquitoes. He has guided around 55 students from various Universities across the country for their PG., M.Phil. and Ph.D., research works and he is also acting as Doctoral Committee member for a few Ph.D., research works in Bharathiar and Pondicherry Universities. He has published around 30 research papers in various national and international journals and written chapters in a couple of books.
